Built in the eighteen hundreds, the Pilcher House located at 10 E. Union St in Uptown Athens, Ohio was used as a home, and had been leased to local businesses for insurance and attorney offices. In the 1970s, the building housed the Ohio University Post newspaper and the Athenian OU yearbook offices. The Pilcher House is located right across East Union Street from the College Green and Soldier’s monument flanked by the Beckley building on one side and the Steven L. Schoonover Center for Communication on the other.
Pilcher House was named in honor of Thomas Murray Drake Pilcher. He was born in the Athens vicinity in 1832. He became a cabinet-maker apprentice at the age of 16. He was a Second Lieutenant and later Captain. He assisted in recruiting Company H, Seventy-Fifth Ohio Volunteer Infantry.
Uptown Realty Group is proud to have renovated and retrofitted this historic Athens Ohio location into our uptown Athens main office.
